EYELID TUMOR

Complete resection is the first priority in treating malignant eyelid tumors and requires consistent guidelines based on effective tumor excision. We are pleased that our recurrence rate with small and large malignant tumors is 1.2% utilizing frozen section control with evaluation of the specimen by our pathology experts at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Eyelid reconstruction techniques are completed at the time the tumor is removed. We are well aware the loss of tissue and replacement is a significant concern for patients and their family members. Fortunately, the surgeons in this practice have extensive experience in completing this task. Priorities in this regard are the function and protection of the eyes and the best possible appearance of the eyelids following surgery. The choice for the possible reconstruction technique is discussed pre-operatively. We discuss the surgical plan with thoroughness and forethought.
