Ectropion, the eversion of the eyelids, can be
associated eye inflammation and exposure which may
lead to eye pain, dryness of the eyes and scarring
of the cornea.
The latter problem can cause visual
abnormality and secondary tearing. The purpose of
surgical treatment will involve tightening the lower
and, perhaps, the upper eyelid. With more complex ectropion, associated scarring in the eyelids may
require the use of skin grafting in the eyelids.
Since we evaluate and treat a number of patients
with complications of cosmetic
eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty),
decisions are based on treatment, functional, visual
and exposure abnormalities, in addition to
considering respecting the patient’s concerns
regarding the appearance of the eyelids.
